Brisbane Truck Show 2017 Wrap Up

The dust is still settling on the 2017 Brisbane Truck Show. This year’s event was a huge success, not only for The Drake Group, but the entire transport and trucking industry. Innovation was on top the mind for many of the exhibitors showcasing their new products, with the event being marked as the turning point for the industry which has experience slow growth in recent years.

According to Heavy Vehicle Industry Australia (HVIA), the Truck Show saw ground-breaking attendance records, with 33,763 visitors covering three levels of the Brisbane Convention and Exhibition Centre. HVIA commended the premier event saying “[exhibitors] really went all out to create a special visitor experience, so it is gratifying to see so much business being done on the stands.

The Drake Group at the 2017 Brisbane Truck Show

The 50th year Brisbane Truck Show anniversary was a special one for The Drake Group. For the first time ever, we showcased the entire Drake Group, which included Drake Trailers, O’Phee Trailers and the always popular Drake Collectibles. Between Drake Trailers and O’Phee Trailers, we were able to treat attendees to an impressive eight trailers, including a new addition from us here at Drake Trailers – the tilt slider. Our tilt slider trailer includes an extendable, widening trailer built to carry up to 40 tonnes.

Drake Trailers has shown off its new tilt slide trailer at the Brisbane Truck Show, an extendable, deck-widening trailer built to carry up to 40 tonnes. “The trailer is a 50-foot extendable, widening super tilt trailer,” John Drake, owner and managing director of The Drake Group, says. “It extends out by 4.8 metres. No other trailer on the market extends that long and it’s a deck-widening trailer that can carry things that are 2.5 metres wide, and out to 3.2 metres wide”.

It gave us great joy to see so many familiar faces and new visitors keen to learn about our products and collect a bargain from our Collectors Night pop up scratch and dent sale.

It wasn’t a Truck Show without being able to show off our range. Drake Collectibles saw the launch of their new B Double and Road Train sets, which were a huge hit with collectors – they were the most popular of any trade show in the history of the business.

Drake Trailers Nominated in the Brisbane Truck Show Awards

Every year, the Heavy Vehicle Industry Alliance hosts the prestigious Brisbane Truck Show Awards night, which recognises the innovation in the transport and trucking industry. It focuses in on vehicle design, engineering, manufacturing, influenced by a culture of innovation and safety. This year, Drake Trailers was nominated in the Best Trailer category for its 4X4 Deck Widener.

Due to its 35 to 55 tonne capacity and fixed wheel track, this trailer was designed to tack the Australian landscape with ease. The Deck Widener is completely customisable, with optional extras such as a hydraulic gooseneck, drop-bed frame, and swing out ramps. While we didn’t take home the award this year, Drake Trailers is proud to be recognised in the industry as one of the best.

Drake Trailers, now a part of The Drake Group, was thrilled to be a part of the 2017 Brisbane Truck Show.
