Big houseboats need big trailers
Just like caravans and motorhomes, houseboats have increased in sophistication and size, but what manufacturers and owners don’t always recognise is that transporting oversize equipment such as a houseboat from its place of manufacture to its end destination is going to require a specialist oversize trailer.
In order to meet the demands of the growing number of houseboat owners, Lake Eildon Marina Services commissioned Drake Trailers to custom-build a trailer for the purpose of transporting houseboats of all shapes and sizes in and out of the lake.
Fully customised design
This was a first for the design team at Drake Trailers. Not only did the houseboat trailer need to extend in width and length to accommodate the vast range of houseboat sizes, the trailer needed to cope with being completely submerged under the fresh water of Lake Eildon.
Using the latest 3D CAD software, the design team delivered a design that met the necessary requirements and included auto-steering axels with hydraulic rams, heavy-duty brakes and radio remote control to assist precise manual steering around the mountainous areas of Lake Eildon National Park. Although Lake Eildon is a fresh water lake, corrosion can still be an issue for marine transport equipment. Using only the best quality high tensile steel and welded using our state-of-the-art robotic welder, the houseboat trailer for Lake Eildon Marine Services is built to withstand the harshest challenges of the marine environment.
