According to the Manpower Employment Outlook Survey for the October-December quarter of 2016, the transport and utilities sectors are predicted to be the source of the strongest job opportunities.
Of the 1,500 public and private employers surveyed, including transport trailer manufacturers, 20 percent of transport and utilities employers said they’re intending to increase their workforce over the coming months.
Optimistic outlook also reflects increase in business confidence
The positive employment outlook mirrors the findings of the June Sensis Business Confidence Survey, which indicated that owners of transport industry SMBs (small and medium businesses with a turnover of less than $2 million) are expecting sales and profitability to increase.
While the number of jobs looks set in increase, the Employment Outlook Survey also hinted at the nature of the jobs in the industry changing to reflect the increased digitisation of processes such as stock management systems and payment processing. For trailer manufacturers in Australia, there’s also the increasing use of technology such as robotics and automation, which despite initial concerns has resulted in more job opportunities rather than less.
Richard Fisher, Managing Director of ManPowerGroup Australia and New Zealand said he attributes the anticipated surge in demand for workers to the drive by transport companies to achieve greater operating efficiencies and stay technologically agile.
