60 years a lot of time in any industry, especially one where performance and service are tested every day on the road. The Drake Group has been around since 1958 and is celebrating the anniversary with another one of their always well-received Open Day events on September 15 2018.
Excitement building for the open day
The Open Day events are a chance for members of The Drake Group team to proudly demonstrate every facet of their design, manufacturing and support process they apply to every one of their heavy transport trailers. It’s also a way for visitors to explore the rich history of the company and see the Australian trailer manufacturer in action.
Our story
The story began in 1958 when engineer Colin Drake set himself the task to manufacturer a new type of high-performance range of trailers for the Australian market, which until that time had primarily been serviced by low-standard imports. Drake Trailers started with a range of low loaders, including flat tops and drop decks, all built especially for the characteristically harsh Australian conditions.
Drake Group Business Development Manager Sam Drake explains that continually pushing trailer designs to the next level is key to the company’s continued success.
“The key to our success has been through maintaining quality in our products, but also innovating with design,” he says.
“We’ve always prided ourselves on quality and innovation and as a result, that’s what our reputation has become out in industry.”
Of course, knowing how to make the best quality trailers in the country is only part of the solution. It’s also vital that customer feedback is taken into continual consideration along the way, and it’s something that has been given a high priority over the last 60 years.
“Listening to our customers is a massive part of what we do, and then translating that into creating better models and transport solutions,” he says.
What to expect on our open day
The Open Day is a great opportunity for members of the public to not only see how The Drake Group operates but to have their say in what features future models could have.
The event is held at The Drake Group’s 8,650 square metre manufacturing facility in Wacol from 9 am to 1 pm on Saturday 15 September 2018. In addition to providing a rare opportunity to see the entire range of heavy haulage trailers on display, there’ll be plenty of hosted events run through the day.
There will be factory tours run through the course of the Open Day, where Drake Group team members will proudly show off the entire process from initial design to manufacturing. It’s a great way to see first-hand 60 years’ worth of hard work and engineering know-how on display.
Speaking of displays, the team at Drake Collectibles will have their range of die-cast models on show. There will be special discounts on offer for that day only, and also a preview of upcoming models that will become available soon, so this is an essential event for collectors and hobbyists.
Trucks and trailers will be given an extra coat of polish and put on display, looking magnificent in all their glory. Competitions and food and drinks will also be on offer to keep everyone entertained through the day.
The entire team at The Drake Group look forward to seeing you there on September 15, 2018. If you can’t wait until then to talk to us about our dependable and capable range of trailers, contact The Drake Group today.
