For 60 years, The Drake Group have been building some of the toughest, heavy-duty trailers on the market. Today we’re taking a look back at years gone by with some of the best vintage Drake trailer photos sent in to us by our customers.
From the 70’s…
Bell bottoms and disco weren’t the only things that were big in the 70’s. J.N Nicholson Transport are loaded up and looking larger than life with a Dragline section (we think) on a Drake 4×8 Swingwing, 4×8 Jinker and a straight frame 2×8 Dolly trailer, all being escorted by police.
Massive Mine Site
This time 10 years ago, HSE MINING took delivery of this monster trailer – a Drake 4×8 Mine Site Transporter. It boasts 380 tonne capacity and widens to eight metres. According to HSE, it’s still in service today. Check out these photos of how HSE loaded and transported it to the Bowen Basin. Each weighing 120 tonnes and 18 metres long, they were quite a sight as they travelled across the country.
Hauling a tree, Drake style
This stunning photo was taken back in the 1980’s and showcases one of our customers moving a gigantic tree on a Drake low loader.
Church bells are ringing
On a normal day, we’d call this Drake a House Removal Trailer, but on this day back in the 90’s, it was a Church Removal Trailer.
Brisbane City Councils float
Brisbane City Council was kind enough to share these very cool photos of when they took delivery of their new Drake 3×8 Swingwing at Rocklea, 50 years ago in 1970. The shots of the trailer are fantastic, but we have to say looking at the background of some of these images are just as interesting.
